Rules: The car had to be sold brand new in 1946
The war had just ended and the Allies were declared the victor. What does Ford do to celebrate? Crank out a car with more horsepower of course. The 100hp Flat Head V8 Ford De Luxe Convertible has always been a favorite of mine. It embodies 40's car design in my humble opinion.
What would you buy Oppo?

This is one of the rare occasions when it is worth it to buy the four door over a two door

Citroën Traction Avant 15-Six berline. A pre-war design that resumed production in 1946, but it’s not like you could buy anything other than pre-war cars in 1946 France.
In-line 6, 77 horsepower, 84 miles per hour, incredible road manners (as they used to say) for the time. And bloody gorgeous with the long hood.

Oddly enough, my wife’s uncle currently drives a 1946 Desoto, like this but his isn’t red. It also used to belong to Bobby Doerr of the Red Sox (he was the first owner). The uncle restores old cars, but he kept this one because it was Bobby’s.

1946 Chevy Pickup
I’m not a huge fan of fat fender cars so most cars from 41-48 are not for me. Though I like the pickups. Both Ford and Chevy pickups in 46 pretty much used the exact same cab from 41/early 42 so if you really didn’t like the new nose you could swap for the pre war nose.

I just wiki’d cars that debuted in ‘46 and picked the most interesting.

Usually, it was a fluid coupling linked to a conventional 3 on the tree. The advantages, besides improved durability, were mainly hill holding and the ability to creep in first.
Fluid Drive could be had with or without the semi-automatic transmission, in ‘46, a lot of the cars were without.

That’s a ‘49, actually a later ‘49, since the new bodies weren’t ready in time and Chrysler carried over the prewar vintage 1948 models for the first half of the model year.

Indeed, because it was fast! The Resistance used them too and before the war it was the preferred choice of criminals as well. The Nazi connection has tainted the car’s legacy in France a bit but it’s regaigning popularity as a wedding car.
